Estimation of Self-Weight Consolidation for Dredged Soil by Density Distribution

During dredging and reclamation, dredged soil has various grain sizedistributions according to region, location, depth, etc. Thesedimentation and self-weight consolidation of dredged soil proceedswith segregating sedimentation, and various problems occur accordingto the characteristics of sedimentation. However, these characteristicsare difficult to forecast. Therefore, a sedimentation and self-weightconsolidation test, a hydraulic consolidation test, and a standardconsolidation test were performed by varying the grain size andcomparing and analyzing its characteristics. Accordingly, the authorscalculated the volume ratio and density ratio for a fine-grained soillayer in the dredged soil after completion of sedimentation and selfweightconsolidation. Then, the authors calculated the settlement bysedimentation and self-weight consolidation. This method was found tobe effective for evaluating the settlement by sedimentation and selfweightconsolidation.
