Electric utilities can expect that in future, more renewable energy sources will be connected to their systems, in particular to the distribution side of their networks. Modelling tools are needed, but are not yet well developed for such systems, even for steady-state (power flow or loadflow) analysis. These systems have characteristics that make traditional loadflow analysis techniques difficult to apply. This paper describes a program designed to overcome these limitations, and provides models for the different types of generators and power-electronic converters that are likely to be found on a renewable power system.
