摘要

The aim of this paper is to share the approaches and learning in effectively managing a contract for supplying the power plant equipment, systems and training for an overseas client in a functional organization. The Contract for Western Mountain Power Plant-Libya was handled by a Project Manager ( Senior Executive) assisted by Contract Manager( Middle Level Executive ) called Contract Management Group (CMG). The main challenge before the team was to generate special organizational sensitivity in the functional set up for this project out of many concurrent running projects at BHEL, Haridwar-India for different clients. Customer's project requirements and expectations were addressed through the use of Project Management tools and techniques through existing and creating new business processes. Following approaches were used namely-A holistic approach to Understanding customer's contractual requirements and the expectations , Sensitizing the different functional teams through Personal communication approach, Team Building approach, Management reviews approach, Approach of Monitoring, reviews and Guiding the teams, Catalyst Role to purchase function, Logistics-Experience of Multi Modal Transport Contract, A Quality Assurance oriented approach to Invoicing to customer, Handling of Cross cultural Issues in the Customer's training of 82 engineers in India, Sense of urgency approach to Technical and Material Support to Overseas Project Site. Above approaches were highly successful and were finally dovetailed with the existing business processes. As a result CMG was able to carve a special attention for Libya contract and were able to meet all the contractual obligations in a timely manner.
