摘要

Generation connected to the distribution system has generally been viewed with some concern by power utilities. One of the principal concerns is the voltage rise that occurs when the generator exports power to the distribution system. At distribution levels, voltage control rather than thermal considerations tend to constrain the permissible power flows in overhead lines, particularly towards the extremities of the system. The practice of forbidding distributed generation to operate in parallel with the utility supply has been superseded with a policy of open access. Distributed generation exploiting renewable energies, such as wind, tidal and wave energy tends to be installed at the extremities of the power system. These must be allowed access to the power system without degrading the standards of voltage control for other customers connected to the network. However, it has to be remembered that such generation, as well as reducing the losses on the system due to its proximity to load, can also contribute to voltage control.
