Deformation Analysis and Stability Evaluation of Yudonghe Landslide

Yudonghe landslide, located in the western Hubei province of China, consists of eastern secondary slide, western secondary slide and 9 main sliding body which is composed of upper and lower slides. It is found that existing soft interlayers, growth of fractures and a down-dip slope, soaking and softening of groundwater contribute to failure of Yudonghe landslide. The landslide experiences three different evolution periods with coherent slump as its main style, including one large scale sliding, one sliding resulted from fall of backside rock masses, and growths of eastern and western secondary slides. The three different periods can be also described as the transfer from equilibrium state to far-from-equilibrium state based on the analysis of self-organised process. Finally, a four-layer backpropagation (BP) artificial neural network with 5 input nodes, two hidden layers and two output nodes is constructed and subsequently used to evaluate its stability. Predicted results show that its safety factor is 1.1005, which indicates that Yudonghe landslide is at a stable stage in terms of engineering consideration.
