FACTORS AFFECTING SUGARCANE YIELD AND SUGAR RECOVERY

There are regional imbalances in sugar cane production in India, tropical region has an advantage of higher yield and higher sugar recovery as compared to the sub-tropical region. The average cane yield in tropical region is about 89.0 tonnes while in the sub-tropical region, it is only about 58 tonnes per hectare. The reasons for low sugar productivity have been discussed.
