Natural slopes that are in unsaturated state collapse suddenly during rainfall. Generally, the cause is considered to be dependent on decrease of effective stress due to suction loss at water infiltration. And slopes themselves develop shear stress due to their gravity forces within the ground in unsaturated state, and they suffer due to water immersion. It is important to examine not only the strength of soil but also the deformation characteristic of slope. In this study, a triaxial test apparatus is devised for examining the behavior of the deformation characteristics for an unsaturated silty clay and experiments are conducted with various cases.
