摘要

Pearl River estuary delta, one of the most complicated deltas in the world, consists of West River, North River, East River and other small rivers (such as Guangzhou River and Tanjiang River). The sediment in Pearl River is from runoff upstream and tidal current downstream, which is the main reason for the evolution of shoal in the river and alluvial sea-route. Based on mathematical model study, it is indicated that there are many factors (such as sediment, disorderly exploitation of sand from river bed, stretch of outlets by reclamation and overfull constructions of bridges so on) which exert unfavorable impact on Pearl River and make flood control difficult.
