Overview of UAV Status and Challenges for Remote Sensing

Uninhabited Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) play a unique role in Remote Sensing of the Environment. This paper describes the status of UAVs, the potential for remote sensing applications, and the challenges to routine use. Much recent work has been sponsored by NASA through the Earth Science Enterprise and the Environmental Research Aircraft and Sensor Technology (ERAST) program. These and other development activities making use of UAVs for remote sensing are discussed.
