This paper is to measure and analyze the relative operational performance of Hong Kong's nine manufacturing industries between 1987 and 1993 using a mathematical programming based procedure called operational competitiveness rating (OCRA). First, the operational activities and broad industry groups of Hong Kong's manufacturing sector are defined based on the data extracted from the government publications. Next, the newly developed OCRA procedure for operational performance measurement is briefly reviewed. Finally, the performance of Hong Kong's manufacturing industries during the period considered are analyzed descriptively with the help of the computational results from the OCRA procedure. Some conclusions are made based on the OCRA results.
