A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON ECONOMIC COST OF RADIATION DETRIMENT

The basic assumption of the current radiation protection system is used by I-CRP that the stochastic component of radiation health detriment is proportional to the collective effective close equivalent with no threshold. Thus a monetary value of radiation detriment is useful for benifit - cost analyses, this project is a attempting effort in the aspect, but does not attempt to estimate the total value of human life or health, it esstimate the economic losses to society that could oc-cure due to radiation-induced illness and injury depending upon an investigation of curing costs of more than 1 5000 cases of cancer and other relevant data in China (discount rate, rate of treatment cost growth, average annual wages, rate of annual wages growth, cancer fatalities and incidence and distribution by age and so on). But risk model and related data are obtained from ICRP Publication no. 60. The economic costs of radiation detriment include direct cost and indirect cost.
