The non-linear properties of matter provide the description of the interaction of high frequency phonons and with other excitations. This is discussed for the examples of attenuation, phonon radiation pressure, phonon decay at surfaces and interfaces, pho-non election interaction in superconducting tunneling junctions and anharmonic phonon decay in amorphous systems.
