For construction of Rinkai-Fukutoshin Line, efforts have been made for shorter construction time while cost reduction is taken into account under the above ground conditions represented by the narrow roads with congested traffic and the multistory buildings as well as complicated subsoil conditions. In the vicinity of the Oimachi station, one shield machine is efficiently used by means of enlarging the diameter at an intermediate shaft, and underground docking in a mechanical shield docking method eliminate the needs of arrival shafts in a narrow road. Making most of such new technology contributes for substantial reduction of construction period and construction cost. This paper reports these new technologies and new construction methods.
