The corrosion behavior of composite alloys, i.e. the Zr_(66.4)Nb_(6.4)Cu_(10.5)Ni_(8.7)Al_8 alloy with glassy matrix and dendrite bcc-type phase and the two-phase glassy Zr_(27.5) La_(27.5)Al_(25)Cu_(10)Ni_(10) alloy with La- and Zr- based phases, was fundamentally studied in phthalate buffer, sulphuric acid and neutral and acidic chloride solutions. For both alloys, the passivation and pitting behavior was found to be governed mainly by their phase composition and not by structural factors. Localized corrosion processes were always initiated at the sharp interfaces between the two phases.
