This paper presents a quantitative analysis of the major mineral components in completely decomposed granite soils comprising slopes in Hong Kong. The minerals include quartz, feldspar, illite, kaolinite, chlorite, halloysite-kaolinite mix, illite-smectite mix and montmorillonite-vermiculite mix. The XRD and thin section methods were used in the measurements. Particular attentions are given to inhomogeneities of their spatial distributions at two sites and in different undisturbed block samples and test specimens.
