A FRAMEWORK OF ORIENTATION-SERVICE-INSPIRATION FOR KNOWLEDGE-BASED FIRMS

Knowledge is the most important factor for knowledge-based firms to achieve competitive advantages in the market. But the knowledge is charged of the knowledge workers, whose abilities of knowledge creations and applications generate the competitive advantages for the knowledge-based firms. For this, there are two important things for the knowledge-based firms: one is to select a proper management framework and the other is to efficiently promote knowledge sharing among the knowledge workers. The models presented in the literature are based mainly on the traditional framework of command-control management and are not suitable to the knowledge-based firms. In this paper, we present a new framework of orientation-service-inspiration for the knowledge-based firms and support the framework by an organizational structure of dynamic rhombus. About the knowledge sharing, we develop the study presented in [1] and divide the process of sharing knowledge into two sub-processes: one is to search knowledge and the other is to transfer knowledge. We point out an important role of willingness to share knowledge in the success of the knowledge sharing. Then we conclude that strong ties are more available to share both simple knowledge and complex knowledge when social identity is important in the firm. Finally, we show that is important to select properly medias to transfer knowledge in the process of the knowledge sharing. For this, by borrowing ideas from information processing, we introduce a concept of knowledge equivocality, which is the same, in essence, as the information equivocality in the information processing. We argue that the process of the knowledge sharing is to clear the meanings of the knowledge, and a basic tool for it is organizational learning. On the other hand, the more tacitness of the knowledge is, the more knowledge equivocality will be.
