STRENGTHENING OF STRUCTURES WITH FRP: SOME RECENT HONG KONG RESEARCH

Over the past decade, there have been rapid advances in the use of fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in construction, in terms of both research and practical applications. The most common application of FRP composites has been in the strengthening of structures, particularly reinforced concrete (RC) structures, but their use in new construction has also been increasingly explored. At The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (the PolyU), on-going research addresses many aspects of the theory of FRP-strength-ened structures and the innovative use of FRP composites in new structures. This paper provides a brief summary of some of the latest research conducted at the PolyU on the behaviour and design of FRP-strengthened RC and steel structures.
