The subject of this presentation is a report on the state of the art of technology ofrnadvanced processing of radar signals supplied from standard marine radars.rnThis has in the past been used mainly for navigation in ice. The radar signals are digitizedrnwith high accuracy and are then also displayed in high graphical resolution on a monitor.rnWith a wide range of processing tools such as filtering, stacking, averaging and analyzingrnwe can today extract much more information from conventional radar signals than just thernrange and bearing to objects.rnThe applications range fromrn1. Navigation in ice,rn2. Automatic detection of oil slicks on the water surface,rn3. Early detecting flocks of birds for the protection of air traffic,rn4. Measuring waves and currents, up to thern?5. Detection and display of very small objects, buoys, pirate boats and evenrnsmimmers.rnSuitable radar signal processing could even be used to detect under-water obstructions inrnshallow water!
