摘要

While a large part of the 20th century was devoted to the finding of new coating compositions, the main fact of the end of that century was the appearance of the awareness of the predominant role of the processing parameters on the performance of high temperature coatings. Thus, nowadays, most of the effort is dedicated to the understanding of the processing - properties interplay and to the process control systems. Coatings are now "engineered" and use a plurality of layers and deposition techniques even though this trend is obviously costly. Many limits are probably to be overcome using indirect roads; for instance developing thicker TBC's allows to decrease metal surface temperature and thus TGO growth rate. Therefore a lot of achievements are still to come thanks to process development and control.
