Application of ISO14000 in the Iron and Steel Industry

The iron and steel industry of the world has long been associated with environmetnal pollution. Until fairly recently, steel mills and iron works are synonymous with smoke stack industries and would conjure up in the minds of the public image of Victorian style, grimy factories. Indeed, many iron and steel plants can trace back to a long history through which production technologies seemed to have stagnated. As societies become increasingly aware of environmental concerns, much criticisms have been focused on the pollution from this industry, which very often include all possible forms of pollutants in large quantities-gaseous and smoke, liquid effluents and solid wastes. Their impact on the environment is extremely seriosu and not limited to the local vicinity but could be wide spread over large areas.
