摘要

The synthesis of three l,2-methano[60]fullerene adducts bearing the malonodiamide functionality has been developed. The compounds have been characterized by MALDI-TOF MS, HPLC, and Evan's Balance magnetic measurements. The two aniline-derived adducts were found to have room temperature solid-state magnetic moments of 3.4 BM and 1.2 BM, while the benzylamine-derived product measured 0.46 BM. Density functional calculations have been performed to aid in the interpretation of the observed paramagnetic behavior. Paramagnetic C_(60) derivatives such as these might serve as precursors for fullerene-based magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents.
