ON SOME ASPECTS OF THE BIOACTIVIY OF FULLERENE NANOSTRUCTURES

Some aspects of the potential human health risk related to fullerene nanostructures were assessed. Dermatological testing and the modified Draize rabbit eye test show that fullerenes and carbon nanotubes do not present any health hazard related to skin irritation and allergic risks. Intratracheal instillation of these carbon nanostructures also does not induce measurable inflammation in bronchoalveolar space and does not change lung function in guinea pigs.
