Unidirectional airflow has been suggested as an additional measure to reduce SSI risk for certain operations, and it can be directed vertically or horizontally. Previous researches mostly focus on vertical flow pattern. This paper investigated into horizontal unidirectional air flow using Computational Fluid Dynamic method, and the Euler-Lagrange approach for particle simulation. Six cases are studied including four different sets of supply air velocities of the horizontal unidirectional supply unit, a horizontal unidirectional flow system and a vertical unidirectional flow system. Results show that area weighted average of particle concentration of lm high plane in horizontal supply systems is higher than that in vertical supply system with similar air change rate. At the same time, particle deposition on critical area is 35% less than that in vertical system.
