In this paper, the effect of welding procedure, such as distribution of welds and sequence of welding on the deformation of a large-scale welded structure: a external column in the National Stadium is analyzed by using inherent strain method. In this structure, welds can be divided into two categories. In this paper, welding deformations produced by different combinations of sequence of welds are analyzed by using inherent strains FEM. In the analysis, characters of inherent strains of different joints and effect of parameter Q/h~2 on deformation are taken account of. Based on the computational results, the better welding procedure of sequence is determined with the minimum deformation. The total welding deformation is predicated to be 2.1 mm.
