In this paper, the effect of adding a small amount of calcium materials, such as lime, gypsum, calcite and OPC clinker on some properties of a metakaolin-based mortar has been investigated. The compressive strength, flexural strength, free moisture content and water absorption of the geopolymer mortar were measured at the age of 1, 3 and 28 days. The test results shows that gypsum, lime and clinker can increase the compressive strength of geopolymers, Calcite has no significant effect on the compressive strength. Lime and clinker can increase the flexural strength of geopolymers, while gypsum only has a positive effect at 1 day with a negative effect dominating at later ages. Up to 10% gypsum can significantly reduce the free moisture content up to 28 days. Replacing MK with calcium materials increases water absorption of geopolymers.
