Vitreloy 106 is a zirconium (Zr)-based bulk metallic glass (BMG) with a nominal composition of Zr_(57)Nb_5Cu_(15.4)Ni_(12.6)Al_(10) (at.%), or Zr_(67.95)Nb_(6.07)Cu_(12.79)Ni_(9.66)Al_(3.5.) (wt.%). It has a density of 6.7 g/cm~3. At present, BMG have found multiple applications, but these materials were never investigated regarding their potential use as shaped charge liner materials. Consequently, an experimental program was designed to evaluate the jetting behavior of Vitreloy 106 under a variety of conditions. The study showed that the Zr-based BMG behaved more like a shaped charge liner fabricated from pressed powdered metals than those made from pure glass.
