@@Molecular typing was used to understand the genetic diversity and relationship of Y. pestis and Y. pseudotuberculosis isolates from different natural plague foci of the former Soviet Union (FSU). DFR-typing was used for characterization of 235 Y. pestis isolates mainly from the FSU and Mongolia. DFR-types endemic for 27 natural foci were determined. In addition to 32 genomovars described previously we revealed 64 novel Y. pestis DFR-types. It was shown that not less than 56 genomovars are circulating at the territory of the FSU and Mongolia.
