Back Ground of Moby Dick Project

摘要

A mega-floating complex called 'Moby Dick' is described here. It was proposed by JSSC (Japan Society of Steel Construction). This mega-floating complex composed from six large floats and one center-core. Each float connected to the center-core with universal joints like a petal of flower. It covers a circular area about 600m in diameter and is designed as a multi-function complex of sports, recreation, conference and water purification plant. It can move to any place to request if several physical conditions are satisfied. In this report, at first, the motivation of this project is explained, and the outline of Moby Dick is shown. Then two important items are discussed in more detail. One is active control method of the float rolling. And one is purification method of dirty seawater. The physical requirements assigned to design are listed up at the end.
