The key content of green chemistry is that environmental pollution is entirely decreased or removed by chemical principle, atom economy is one of most important characteristics of green chemistry, and it requests that the limited resource should be made full use of. In this paper the basic concepts and principle of green chemistry and atom economy are introduced. According to the demands of green chemistry and atom economy, two new concepts, the unit mass production heat and the unit mass gas volume of explosion products are introduced. The selection of raw materials and the relation between formulation design and explosion products are discussed. The results show that the formulation of industrial explosives should be zero oxygen balance, and the raw materials, which is nontoxicand contains more hydrogen, oxygen and carbon elements, should be selected in order to increase explosion properties and decrease environmental pollution.
