SPICE and SPICE like simulators have several problems that impact their ability to accurately model switched mode power supplies. Methods for improving SPICE based simulations were provided. An alternative analysis engine that is application specific to single ended forward converters was introduced. The new simulator provides accuracy results comparable to a properly accomplished short term real time SPICE analysis, but provides these results orders of magnitude faster than can be accomplished with a SPICE engine. The combination of speed and accuracy of the new simulator enable the user to perform long term transient analyses and frequency domain analyses with the same analysis engine that generates accurate sub-cycle information. With the new analysis engine frequency domain analyses can be done using network analysis techniques to obtain very reliable results. The new simulator comes with a standard Windows user interface and a set of tools which enable the user to generate working schematics and reliable analyses quickly and easily.
