Phosphorus (P) distribution between main shoot and different tillers of two wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars, large-spike cultivar CA9325 and multi-spike cultivar JM2, as affected by removal of P supply at the jointing or flagging stage, was investigated by using a sand culture system in a greenhouse. Under P-sufficient conditions the increase of P in main shoots, valid tillers and whole plants grown followed a typical "S" shaped curve, same as that of plant growth. The ratio of P content in the main shoot to that of the whole plant increased in both cultivars, but it decreased gradually in invalid tillers and roots (time course? Readers don't know what treatments you designed in this study because abstract itself should be stayed alone without referring to whole paper. The meaning is not clear!). In comparison with control plants, at the same sampling time (describer the exact stage of sampling!) the ratio of P content in valid tillers to that of whole P-deficient plants of both cultivars was decreased. The results showed that P deficiency enhanced P transfer into grains of both cultivars.
