摘要

To predict settlement damage on adjacent buildings due to excavation induced ground movements in the design stage, the limiting tensile strain (LTS) method is currently used in engineering practice. In order to make the method applicable in practice engineering, the developers of this method have supposed some basic assumptions. This paper presents the results of a fundamental analyses of these assumptions from structural point of view and its impact on the calculated tensile strains in the buildings. Suggestions are made for an improved use of the method.
