THE RECULTIVATION OF OPENCAST PEATLAND IN ESTONIA

In Estonia there is a number of exhausted peat pits where the peat deposits after excavation allow their agronomical usage. Here the acid loving plant species could be used. The purpose of the current paper is to conclude the experimental work results that were carried out in the years 1999 - 2001. Also, to give an overview of the quality of Fibri Dystric Histosols. For peat soil quality the main nutrients available for plants (P, K, Ca, and Mg) ash and total N content were analysed. The two plant species Vaccinium angustifolium Ait. and V. oxycoccus Pers., were used for reclamation and different fertilization treatments.
