摘要

Polypropylene fibers after being introduced in the nonwoven industry in 1960s became the most consumed fibers in the spunbond nonwoven industry in the recent times1. Among the synthetic fibers which are being used in the spunbond nonwoven industry, polypropylene occupies the highest percentage because of its low cost. In spite of being the most consumed and low cost fiber for the nonwoven industry, its applications in the next-to-skin products are being restrained due to its hydrophobic character. It is generally felt in the industry that if the hydrophobicity of polypropylene is overcome, it would surpass the consumption of other fibers in the industry.
