The high impact polystyrene (HIPS) with high gloss was made by the free radical grafting polymerization process with the compounded rubber of low-cis star polybutadiene (Asaprene 730A, Li rubber by Japan Asahi Co.) and high-cis polybutadiene (BR9002, Ni rubber by Synthetic Rubber Plant of Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical Co.) as the toughening agetn. The morphological structure and mechanical properties of HIPS with the single and compounded polybutadiene rubber wer studied. The interface and shape of rubber particles, the particle size and its distribution were observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
