FORWARD-RESERVE STORAGE FOR FULL-PALLET SYSTEMS

This work has shown that applying a forward-reserve approach to managing a full-pallet system can produce a significant reduction in the distance traveled for retrieving loads to fill orders. This reduction in travel distance will reduce the time to move a pallet from storage to the dock and thus the time to load a truck. Because the loading docks are often a bottleneck resource, freeing up the docks more quickly would allow the facility to load more trucks in a given time period.
