The Leningrad Radon Special Complex was put into operation in February 1962 as a regional State enterprise to accumulate, transport, process and dispose of solid and liquid radwaste as well as to decontaminate special purpose clothing and provide storage for sources of ionizing radiation.rnIts area of operation was determined by current resolution of the Leningrad Government and covers the northwestern area of the Russian Federation including St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, the Karelian Republic, and the Novgorod, Pskov, Vologda and Kaliningrad regions.
