With the expanding use of embedded systems, the need to evaluate the performance of an embedded system soars. A workload, which is very important in benchmarking, is set to represent the real workload in embedded application domain. This paper introduces two popular benchmark suites, Mibench and Lmbench. Then, under the design guideline of EEMBC benchmark suite, the paper propose a new method to classify the embedded applications, which is to arrange them according to functions they can do in a computer, from the architecture way. In the spirit of this guideline, a new benchmark called Tjbench (Tongji Bench) is coming into being. In the end, with the results run on different personal computers, its consistency to Mibench and the validity are verified.
