We have dedicated our efforts to the development of a mass-producible Micro-Fuel Cell~(TM) electrical power system for cellular telephones and other portable electronic devices. Our non-bipolar design incorporates vacuum deposition techniques to coat patterned etched-nuclear-particle-track plastic membranes to form the required catalytically active electrodes on either side of a proton-exchange-membrane electrolyte. The cells are arranged in series on a preformed single-structured membrane containing the necessary through-membrane contacts, through-cell water control, thin film electrodes, and electrode breaks. These production techniques are well suited to roll-to-roll production processes and minimize the use of expensive catalysts. We intend to produce a power supply for portable electronics that is smaller, lighter, cleaner and less expensive than rechargeable batteries.
