In the near future, the increase of users' density and mobility will signif icantly affect mobile nodes using mobile IP. So, binding updates will results in a large amount of network overhead. To overcome this problem, we aim at reducing the number of binding update when each mobile node has a prof ile that contains information about the places where it visited. In this paper, we propose prof ile-based strategy (PBS) using the past moving history of mobile node. We compare performance of PBS with that of the existing Mobile IPv6 (MIPv6). For comparison, we measure the number of binding update messages and binding request messages sent from a mobile node. Our results show that PBS has smaller number of both binding update and binding request messages than the existing MIPv6. Therefore, PBS can efficiently reduce network costs at the expense of modest increase in profile storing cost.
