Performance of buildings in extreme winds

摘要

Researchers at Texas Tech University have documented damage caused by extreme wind events for more than three decades. Their observations have identified storm-related, environment-related, and building-related variables that affect damage to buildings. This paper gives examples of damage observations in multistory, large metal, small commercial, and timber buildings and delineates some general lessons for structural engineers to glean from the damage documentation experiences of Texas Tech personnel to reduce damage to an acceptable level.
