PRINCIPLES AND TECHNOLOGY OF PHOTOVOLTAIC ENERGY CONVERSION

Modern photovoltaics uses semiconductor solar cells with increasingly sophisticated structures. Silicon remains the most important materials choice. This talk reviews some of the basic principles, especially concerning estimates of theoretical efficiency limits, improved photon utilization, contact optimization, and opportunities and technical problems arising for thin-film solar cells.
