In order to efficiently use secondary batteries it is very important to use a suitable charging method which can reach 100% state of charge as fast as possible without decreasing their lifetime. Several charging methods for NiCd- and NiMH-batteries are available. In order to cut off the charging process at the right time, many charge control criterions could be used. The suitability of both charging methods and criterions for cutting off charging processes is evaluated contradictorily by different authors. In this paper charging methods are reported and evaluated for the application in mobile sensor systems. Investigations with different methods show no considerable effect on measured battery capacity. It is expected, that they have an influence on battery aging.
