MANAGING PROJECTS FOR RESULTSTHE ABS PROJECT MANAGEMENT METHODOLOGY

Building of the ABS Project Management Framework commenced in February 1998 and finished the following year. It is being continually improved based on feedback from project managers and project teams. The framework has been evaluated both internally and by an independent external organisation. The findings of both these evaluators have been that the outcomes have been fully realised.The aim of the ABS Project Management Framework (PMF) project was to put in place a framework to support effective project management practices in the ABS. One of its aims was to develop a culture in which ABS staff are more aware of project requirements and constraints, and to be provided with effective knowledge and tools to ensure that project parameters were controlled and targets met. Here are a few of the benefits which have flowed from the project. Better control of projects (resources and scope) by project managers and ABS executive officers, increased identification and control of project risks, improved management of project information, more effective use of corporate funds through control of budgeting elements, quality built into project outputs rather than as an afterthought, improved information flow to project stakeholders, more predictable project results, earlier identification and resolution of problems, and improved team morale through clearer project focus.
