The austenite-to-ferrite transformation of plain medium carbon (0.25C) steel during deformation at a slow strain rate of 0.01s"' occurred by dynamic massive transformation at temperature below critical temperature Tc, within a 2-phase field, similarly to the case of a plain low carbon (0.15C) steel. The critical temperature T_C is believed to be the deformation induced T_0, which was higher than T_0 by about 50 C, The dynamic massive transformation was largely suppressed at a strain rate of 1s~(-1).
