EDF (Electricity of France) R&D performs tests on full scale simulated control rooms inrnorder to collect information about emergency operation of nuclear power plants. The purpose is tornenhance on the one hand the human reliability analysis and on the other hand the assessment of humanrnperformance. The aim of this paper is to present a method for retrospective analysis of simulatedrnaccidents and the characteristics of a collective performance highlighted as a relevant result. Workrnactivity in a nuclear power control room, and in particular in an accidental situation, is a collectivernactivity allowing for right decision-making, recovery actions in case of errors, a best time and stressrnhandling, etc. In this perspective the results highlight a kind of collective performance, in which, therntechnical executive, has a key function from the reliability point of view. Indeed, he emerges as anrninterface between the front operators and the management (foreman & safety engineer), as a safetyrnbarrier by observing the actions of the front operators. The relationship between this collectivernperformance and nuclear safety has been discussed in the conclusion from both ergonomical andrnhuman reliability approaches.
