The power industry in Russia experiences a new rise, and a task is set to double the nuclearrnpower share for the nearest twenty years. Another urgent task is to overcome a number of problemsrninherited from the USSR and related to the consequences of cold war: from nuclear submarinesrndecommissioning to remediation of radioactively contaminated territories. In the conditions of limitedrnresources, the large-scale tasks demand a precise prioritization of works. The classical PSA approachrnis not sufficient to solve such problems. The risk matrix methodology was used as a basic tool torndefine priorities. The paper reviews the basic problems and the developed approaches to solve thernproblems of decommissioning of nuclear and radiation hazardous facilities in the Russian Federation.rnThe paper presents the examples of justification of the most urgent tasks and actions using the riskrnconcept, and gives the data related to actual and planned scopes of works on decommissioning andrnpriorities of their realization.
