摘要

Transient Stability is one of the factors to be considered in deciding the location and rating of FACTS controllers. This paper presents a method to assess the effectiveness of Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) in enhancing transient stability when placed in different lines. The method uses Structure Preserving Energy Function to determine energy margin sensitivity with respect to the reactance of TCSC. The energy margin sensitivity for a given location of TCSC is obtained by solving two sets of linear algebraic equations and therefore the method is computationally efficient. The proposed method is applied to the 10 machine 39 bus New England system.
