Influence of the Cutting- edge Arrangement of Plunge Shaving Cutter on Shaving Roughness

In this paper the cutting-edge arrangement pattern of a plunge shaving cutter is approached. It points out that the cutting-edge should be arranged as a spiral. Progressively staggering of cutting-edge caused to stagger the shaving tracks of tooth face on shaved gear mutually, therefore tooth-roughness decreases effectively. Spiral lead closely relates to the tooth number of gear and that of cutter. Appling engaging principle and differential geometry etc, the roughness of shaved gear is analysed quantitatively and researched thoroughly when shaving with the cutter whose cutter-edge arranged as a spiral. A kind of calculating method of forecasting tooth-roughness is developed.
