One of the key tasks of manufacturing high-speed and heavy-duty gears is to increase the bending fatigue strength of the tooth root. For this purpose, pre-grinding hob with high and Short teeth was developed. Theoretical calculation and experiments confirm the following results: This kind of hob enables cutting process to be more stable. It raises nobbing efficiency and tool life by 100% than that of ordinary hobs. The hob obviously reduces the roughness of the surface at the tooth root and greatly increases the bending fatigue strength and the ability to resist impact load of the gears. The utilization of such hob has been a great advance in hobbing technology in our country.
